NEVER any problems after 30+ spools
I've been using HatchBox for ALL my PLA printing, in a variety of different colors: Black, White, Silver, Red, Orange., Yellow, Blue, Wood, Silver, Gold,... Not a single bad spool, no kinks, no brittleness, never any issues. It probably helps that all my filament is kept in a moisture-controlled cabinet, and the only exposed part of the filament is the 9 inches from the cabinet to the extruder on the printer. But I never pull the filament when I'm done printing unless I'm changing filament: it just stays in the printer and is ready for whatever else is next to be printed in that color. As someone else mentioned, always keep the loose end contained and never let it spring loose. I did that ONCE, and know now NOT to ever let it spring loose again. Filament clips or stuffing the loose end back into one of the holes in the spool solves that problem. I don't see any reason to use any other PLA filament other than HatchBox. That's MY experiences with it. Yours may or may not be the same.

Opaque colors and good layer consistency
The empty roll measures 249g on my scale. Not sure how much variance there is between rolls, or if there is precisely 1000g of filament to be able to keep track accurately. Hope this helps as some other reported numbers may not be correct. Hatchbox continues to prove to be better than the off-brand cheaper filaments, by having consistent layers, and more reliable roll winding. My favorite part about this brand is how the colors look good and are fully opaque as expected. Some no-name filaments have been slightly transparent and seem to contain less of the "color" material. For black specifically, hatchbox ends up shiny and maintains a dark black color. A no-name filament for comparison, ended up dull and inconsistent in color.

My go-to, workhorse filament
Now that I'm on my third roll of this stuff, I feel comfortable writing a review. I absolutely love this filament, and I really don't think there is a PLA that can beat it for the price. There are fancier, stronger PLA's such as Polymax, but they cost over twice as much for a smaller roll. With Hatchbox black, I don't feel like my money is getting flushed down the toilet with every failed print. The finish has an attractive glossy shine, and the material itself has great dimensional accuracy, making for less blobs and zits, assuming that you have a nice extruder/hot end. I have gotten good results with 0.4mm nozzles all the way up to 1mm nozzles with big fat traces. When you print coarse, this stuff is rock solid (by PLA standards). I also have better bed adhesion with this stuff than it's cheaper counterparts. Obviously, this isn't going to replace materials like poly-carbonate for prints that need extreme strength and heat resistance. It isn't magic. But if you want a budget filament that can works for drafts AND final products (for many applications), you can't go wrong with Hatchbox Black PLA. It might be worth mentioning that (at least on my build surface, LokBuild) the bottom will have a matte finish rather than a shiny one. Sometimes peeling off larger prints will leave a chalky white residue on the bottom for some reason, but a few seconds with a heat gun will clear that up no problem. My only complaint is that if you do a lot of sanding or filing in post processing, you will lose that awesome shiny finish. However, I am of the school of thought that if your printer is well tuned and you are slicing your files well, you won't need to do much sanding.

There's No Store Where I can get this Quicker.
HATCHBOX PLA 3D Printer Filament, Dimensional Accuracy +/- 0.03 mm, 1 kg Spool, 1.75 mm, Black - What can I say? This stuff just works. Never had an issue with it. I have a MonoPrice Select Mini V3 and this was the filament recommended to me by a friend. I have done quite a bit of experimenting with this and the part that still amazes me is the ability of the printer and this filament to print reliably in mid-air over spans of several inches. No complaints. Had it in my hands within 24 hours of ordering through Prime. BONUS! Seriously, I was just checking to see what day it would arrive and discovered that it already on my door-step.

Had a bad spool, but Amazon and Hatchbox made it right!
An unfortunate side effect of shipping filament is that, if they happen to heat cycle in transit, the material can deform, causing massive print problems. While INCREDIBLY rare from Hatchbox in my experience, this did recently happen on a spool of black PLA I ordered from them - very inconsistent extrusion and many layer gaps, on a printer that handles every other spool of Hatchbox I own just fine. Hatchbox and Amazon processed my return request lightning fast, and within a few days, I had my replacement spool of filament. I had used just under 100g of the 1kg spool I was originally sent to try to figure out if it was my fault or the filament's fault, but I wasn't even charged a restocking fee. The spool I was sent as a replacement is of the level of quality I've come to expect of Hatchbox - good, consistent extrusion, no visible surface defects in the filament, reliable thermal properties. Hatchbox is a very good brand of filament, and should be everyone's baseline for what good PLA filament is.

Excellent consistency in this price range.
Print quality is the most reliably consistent in this price range compared to other PLA's I've tested. I've so far had no issues with the several spools I've gone through on a CR10. When I want a print with little to no finishing without spending a fortune, this is the stuff I go for. Only few gripes I have is that even the cheaper filaments have better designed spools and extras. For instance the spool has no indication of how much filament is left, They should take a cue from their competitors and just add in a few holes or cut a line down the side of the spool to show how much is left.

The dull filament required higher temperatures to bond layers
I ordered two spools of this filament. Both rolls were black pla and for some reason the two rolls weren't the same. The first rolls filament was a shiny black filament and the second was a matte black filament. The dull filament required higher temperatures to bond layers... May have been a coincidence but that seems like a QC problem to me. Still is one of my go to filament but they are awful proud of there filament at nearly 30% more than the others... So what am I getting for that premium... Update: Their customer service contacted me and offered another spool or a refund. That's awesome. It good to have a product that is backed up by the seller.

Incredibly good PLA
It's seemingly kind of hit and miss these days when you find random companies for PLA. I heard really good things about hatchbox from a friend and found it on amazon. I've had some PLA that is just a frazzled mess, and others that are really inconsistent on what they deliver, others prone to weird temp issues. However, this is not that PLA. I ended up going with the recommended temps on the box (60C bed, 200C extruder temp) and on a glass bed with a little cheap hairspray, this stuff sticks like crazy and is consistent as consistent can be. I will probably never go for another PLA brand because this stuff works so freaking good on my Monoprice V2 Select that I don't have any other reason to look for another standard black PLA. Finish quality is good, no issues with flaking, no problems with cohesion. LOVE IT.

Very nice filament.
I'm new to 3d printing but all the reviews online state hatchbox is THE brand to go to for quality. I started out printing with 3d solutech but i went to order brand in black amazon was out. I decided to try hatchbox that everyone raves about and they weren't wrong. The filament comes well packed and vacuum sealed. I would say Hatchbox is a little better for than 3d solutech but that just on my monoprice mini select printer. I am confident that if I had a higher quality printer that the Hatchbox would really shine. I went through a whole roll with no extruder jams or roll wind errors. I would say if you have a small beginner printer, I would say save $4 to $5 and go with 3d solutech just because your not going to see that great of a difference for the cost. But.. if you have a higher end printer, Hatchbox all the way!

Great PLA
I've always had good luck with Hatchbox. I use the black mostly for shop accessory applications, since the black leaves a lot to be desired in decorative applications (the detail gets lost in the deep black and shine of this PLA). Its extremely sturdy for what I use it for and with the right print settings can handle a ton of weight. It comes out smooth and I've never had it cause any problems with nozzle clogging, uneven widths, or adhering like it should. Even when I had a small break from 3D printing in the beginning when I was new to the hobby, it had dried out and become fragile on the spool months later, it STILL printed beautifully despite my own stupidity.
